Captain Timothy J. Ferrie was elected as President of the Marine Society of the City of New York on January 30th, 2006 and is now serving his second term as their 70th President.

He was born on Staten Island and is a graduate of St. Peter’s Boys High School.  He graduated from SUNY Maritime College at Fort Schuyler in 1978.

Captain Ferrie is a 28 year member and Full Branch Pilot with the United New Jersey Sandy Hook Pilots Association.    Additionally, he has served over 7 years on the Board of Directors for the United New Jersey Sandy Hook Pilots Association.  He has been a member of the Marine Society since 1991 and member of the Standing Committee since 1994.  Capt. Ferrie is also a Trustee of the Sailors Snug Harbor Trust.

Captain Ferrie also holds the elected position of being the East Coast Regional Representative for the International Organization of the Masters, Mates and Pilots, Pilot Group.  He is a member and a director of the Maritime Association of the Port of New York and New Jersey.  He is well known and respected in the New York and New Jersey Maritime Community.

Locally, Tim resides in Point Pleasant Borough, and has been a member of the Point Pleasant Borough Council for 8 years, serving as Council President in 2003.  He is a Trustee for the Point Pleasant Foundation for Excellence in Education and a member of both the Point Pleasant Borough and Point Pleasant Beach Chamber of Commerce.

Captain Ferrie’s love of ships and the shipping industry is evident but his other love is trains.  Three years ago he opened up The Train Room, which is located in Point Pleasant Beach, and is a complete model railroad retail store.
